Just a Little Planning and Preparation Required

Determine where the cabinets -or any other heavy wall hangings- are to be placed.

Rout out a groove for a 1 x 3 or 1 x 4, or even any 2 x ? if desired.

Attach bolts at least 32 inches on center to the board.

Set the board into this groove with the bolts going into the voids.

The block face may be cut out for additional grid support behind the hanger board.

Cabinets are not the only things to need backing. Anything with weight to hang on the wall should be backed. Examples are curtain rods, towel rods, medicine cabinets, and mirrors. It is easier to mount these items if you have installed wood backing as with cabinets.
